In the Northwest we face several natural and man-made hazards. Earthquakes, fires, flooding, HAZMAT incidents, power failures and criminal acts can occur without warning. Terrorism is also a threat to our security. While we cannot control if and when a disaster will strike, we can choose to be prepared.

The Government can only do so much in the event of a disaster. The rest is up to you. What have you done to prepare your family or business?

  • Statistics show that a business closed for more than a few days after a disaster never reopens. (ICMA Press, Emergency Management, Practices and Principles for Local Government.)
  • In 2007 there were over thirty-four hundred fire related fatalities through out the US. (National Fire Protection Agency)
  • In Washington there were 51 fire related fatalities and over 224 million dollars in structures and contents damaged or destroyed. (WSP Office of State Fire Marshall)
  • In 2006 there were 2293 hazardous material events in Washington State. (WA Emergency Management Division (EMD))
  • In 2007 there were over 22,000 violent crimes, 260,000 property crimes and over 52,000 burglaries through out Washington State. (Washington Law Enforcement Agency Uniform Crime Report).

  • Services and training may be used to reduce insurance rates.
  • Violent acts or unforeseen health or safety events occur while traveling abroad. (criminals, terrorist, piracy, health issues, safety standards).
